Ruine Rauber Diepoldsburg

The Diepoldsburg Castle Ruins: A Medieval Double Castle

History and Origins

The Diepoldsburg Castle Ruins, also known as Ruine Rauber, is a historical double castle complex located in the Swabian Alb region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The lower castle, the Untere Diepoldsburg, commonly referred to as Ruine Rauber (Robber's Ruins), dates back to the Middle Ages.

Construction and Inhabitants

The construction of the Untere Diepoldsburg is attributed to a knightly family named Diepholdsburg around 1210. The fortress was likely built to control the local trade and agricultural resources in the Alb valleys. Over the centuries, the castle underwent ownership changes and modifications, reflecting the political and social dynamics of the region.
